The Daraja Academy

Daraja Academy is a boarding secondary school for Kenyan girls with top academic scores and exceptional leadership skills but no means to continue their education. The academy's unique educational model focuses on 4 main components: female empowerment, cross-cultural education, social and environment responsibility and personal/career development. This school is located in rural Kenya, an area where girls are consistently dismissed and forgotten. With their Daraja scholarships, however, Daraja girls are given the tools and resources to be critical thinkers, progressive leaders and architects of their futures. Daraja means “bridge” in Swahili. Daraja Academy is a bridge from who the girls are now to who they have the potential to become. The Carr Education Foundation employs the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) standards for Daraja Academy's educational curriculum.

Famous quotes containing the word academy:

I realized early on that the academy and the literary world alike—and I don’t think there really is a distinction between the two—are always dominated by fools, knaves, charlatans and bureaucrats. And that being the case, any human being, male or female, of whatever status, who has a voice of her or his own, is not going to be liked.
    Harold Bloom (b. 1930)
