The Royal Family

Members of the royal family are not part of the official order of precedence, but are traditionally placed on top of the hierarchy. Their order is as follows:

  • HM The Queen
  • HRH The Prince Consort
  • HRH The Crown Prince
  • HRH The Crown Princess
  • HRH Prince Christian
  • HRH Princess Isabella
  • HRH Prince Vincent
  • HRH Princess Josephine
  • HRH Prince Joachim
  • HRH Princess Marie
  • HH Prince Nikolai
  • HH Prince Felix
  • HH Prince Henrik
  • HH Princess Athena
  • HRH Princess Benedikte
  • HH Princess Elisabeth

When the Queen is out of the country the heir apparent is regent.

If the Crown Prince is also out of the country, the role of regent falls to the next adult in the line of succession. The eligible persons are:

  • Princess Benedikte of Denmark
  • Princess Elisabeth of Denmark

The actual order of precedence is divided into five classes:

Famous quotes containing the words royal family, royal and/or family:

You know, he wanted to shoot the Royal Family, abolish marriage, and put everybody who’d been to public school in a chain gang. Yeah, he was a idealist, your dad was.
David Mercer, British screenwriter, and Karel Reisz. Mrs. Dell (Irene Handl)

High from the summit of a craggy cliff,
Hung o’er the deep, such as amazing frowns
On utmost Kilda’s shore, whose lonely race
Resign the setting sun to Indian worlds,
The royal eagle draws his vigorous young
    James Thomson (1700–1748)

My ambition for station was always easily controlled. If the place came to me it was welcome. But it never seemed to me worth seeking at the cost of self-respect, or independence. My family were not historic; they were well-to-do, did not hold or seek office. It was easy for me to be contented in private life. An honor was no honor to me, if obtained by my own seeking.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
