Errors

  • Rodney informs Del that his VCRs are designed for use in continental Europe, and when hooked up to the UK power system, quickly burn out and fail. In fact, aside from a differently shaped plug, there is no major difference between the UK and continental power systems. A French-market VCR with a manually adjusted (or mechanical) tuner (such as one adjusted with thumbwheels or screws via screwdrivers) would fail in the UK due to the incompatibility between the SECAM television system used in France and the PAL-I system used in the UK, which a SECAM VCR can only record in monochrome; most of the rest of Europe uses the PAL-B/G system, and again a VCR designed for this system would fail in the UK, in this case by not recording the soundtrack. A PAL or SECAM-intended VCR with an electronic memory tuner (where the tuner is programmed by buttons), with the right programming at the factory, can record the opposite system with no problems, a few electronic tuner VCRs, however, are only intended for a PAL or SECAM market and will not record the other system. VCRs for PAL or SECAM will not record (though some will play back) tapes recorded on the American NTSC colour system. It will not work vice-versa either (NTSC to PAL/NTSC to SECAM).

Famous quotes containing the word errors:

I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Truth has not single victories; all things are its organs,—not only dust and stones, but errors and lies.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

[Montesquieu] lifted the veil from the venerable errors which enslaved opinion, and pointed the way to those luminous truths of which he had but a glimpse himself.
    James Madison (1751–1836)
