Professional Dance Education
Professional and vocational dance education is offered by both public and private institutions. Private institutions, which are commonly known as dance schools or dance colleges, are typically focused on dance education, whereas public institutions usually cover a broad range of topics. Examples of private institutions include the Royal Ballet School and the School of American Ballet.
Many public and private universities and colleges offer minor programs in dance, or major programs with academic degrees such as B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. in dance. Some public secondary education institutions offer comprehensive dance education curriculums. For example, Jefferson High School (Portland, Oregon) offers concentrated vocational dance education in conjunction with its pre-professional dance company, The Jefferson Dancers.

Famous quotes containing the words professional, dance and/or education:
“Smoking ... is downright dangerous. Most people who smoke will eventually contract a fatal disease and die. But they dont brag about it, do they? Most people who ski, play professional football or drive race cars, will not dieat least not in the actand yet they are the ones with the glamorous images, the expensive equipment and the mythic proportions. Why this should be I cannot say, unless it is simply that the average American does not know a daredevil when he sees one.”
—Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
“If Im on skates, I feel at home no matter what Im doing. If they wanted me to sing and dance I think I could do it just because I was on skates. When Im not on skates, though, I feel very strange.”
—Dorothy Hamill (b. 1956)
“If factory-labor is not a means of education to the operative of to-day, it is because the employer does not do his duty. It is because he treats his work-people like machines, and forgets that they are struggling, hoping, despairing human beings.”
—Harriet H. Robinson (18251911)
