Dan Reinstein - Music

Music

Alongside his medical career, Professor Reinstein has regularly played the saxophone for over 35 years. His musical training includes two years of study on a performance scholarship at the Berklee College of Music, in Boston. Despite his busy medical career, he continues to play jazz on a monthly basis at the 606 Club in Chelsea, London. He discovered a way of combining his surgical and medical passions: performing LASIK for presbyopia on many of his jazz idols; he has operated on many jazz greats including Steve Smith (musician), Tom Coster, Bill Evans (saxophonist), John McLaughlin (musician), Béla Fleck, Dave Weckl, Ric Fierabracci, Victor Bailey, Ron Carter, Jojo Mayer, Jerry Bergonzi, Randy Brecker, Warren Hill (musician), Rachel Z, Robben Ford, Michael Colina, Morris Pleasure (Earth, Wind & Fire), Sean Rickman, Payton Crossley, Bonnie Tyler, Brian Bennett of the Shadows and many others.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

Who that has heard a strain of music feared then lest he should speak extravagantly any more forever?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The further jazz moves away from the stark blue continuum and the collective realities of Afro-American and American life, the more it moves into academic concert-hall lifelessness, which can be replicated by any middle class showing off its music lessons.
    Imamu Amiri Baraka (b. 1934)
