Dallas White Rock Marathon

Dallas White Rock Marathon

The Dallas Marathon (formerly the Dallas White Rock Marathon) is a marathon that has taken place in December in Dallas, Texas since 1971. An official time from the Dallas Marathon can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The course is both hilly and flat involving running through downtown Dallas as well as the area surrounding White Rock Lake. In recent years, it has included the Mayor's 5K race, a five person relay, and a half-marathon in addition to the traditional marathon race. The main beneficiary of the race is Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Along with the Houston Marathon and the Austin Marathon, the Dallas Marathon forms the first leg of the Marathons of Texas, a series of winter marathons held approximately one month apart from each other from December through February in Texas.

Famous quotes containing the words dallas, white, rock and/or marathon:

A sceptic finds Dallas absurd. A cynic thinks the public doesn’t.
    Clive James (b. 1939)

    His thoughts, delivered to me
From the white coverlet and pillow,
    I see now, were inheritances—
    Delicate riders of the storm.
    Hart Crane (1899–1932)

Here is no water but only rock
Rock and no water and the sandy road
The road winding above among the mountains
Which are mountains of rock without water
If there were water we should stop and drink
Amongst the rock one cannot stop or think
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

... marathon swimming is the most difficult physical, intellectual and emotional battleground I have encountered, and each time I win, each time I touch the other shore, I feel worthy of any other challenge life has to offer.
    Diana Nyad (b. 1949)
