As per the "Protected Area Proposal" of National Interest, the Wildlife Institute of India proposal, the sanctuary which is existing actually in141 Km2 is extended to 400 Km2. Many places in surroundings like Dara, Brain, Khrew, Khanmoh, Shikargah conservation forest reserves Thajwas Wildlife sanctuary were brought under it and named as Greater Dachigam National Park.
