Da Vinci Machine

The Da Vinci Machine, also called the Multi Language Virtual Machine is a Sun Microsystems project aiming to prototype the extension of the Java Virtual Machine to add support for dynamic languages.

It is already possible to run dynamic languages on top of the JVM, but the goal is to ease new dynamic language implementations and increase their performance. This project is the reference implementation of JSR 292 (Supporting Dynamically Typed Languages on the Java Platform).

Famous quotes containing the words vinci and/or machine:

The function of muscle is to pull and not to push, except in the case of the genitals and the tongue.
    —Leonardo Da Vinci (1425–1519)

The cycle of the machine is now coming to an end. Man has learned much in the hard discipline and the shrewd, unflinching grasp of practical possibilities that the machine has provided in the last three centuries: but we can no more continue to live in the world of the machine than we could live successfully on the barren surface of the moon.
    Lewis Mumford (1895–1990)
