As the second largest school in Pitt County, DHC is able to offer a few classes with standard, honors, and AP levels. Furthermore, distance learning is also available to connect with other schools in Pitt County to offer more classes. The day is divided into four periods on block scheduling with ninety minute classes. Four lunches are served daily during third period, with fourth lunch being the longest. Languages offered include French, Spanish, and others online. Some classes, like yearbook and journalism, require an application process to take. The yearbook is called the Valkyrian, and the newspaper is called The Shield.

Famous quotes containing the word classes:

The want of education and moral training is the only real barrier that exists between the different classes of men. Nature, reason, and Christianity recognize no other. Pride may say Nay; but Pride was always a liar, and a great hater of the truth.
    Susanna Moodie (1803–1885)

The difference between people isn’t in their class, but in themselves. Only from the middle classes one gets ideas, and from the common people—life itself, warmth. You feel their hates and loves.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

Of all reformers Mr. Sentiment is the most powerful. It is incredible the number of evil practices he has put down: it is to be feared he will soon lack subjects, and that when he has made the working classes comfortable, and got bitter beer into proper-sized pint bottles, there will be nothing left for him to do.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
