Cyro Baptista - Beat The Donkey

Beat The Donkey

Baptista formed Beat the Donkey, a percussion and dance ensemble in 2002. The group released its second CD, Love the Donkey on John Zorn's independent Tzadik record label in 2005.

His debut self-titled CD with Beat the Donkey (Tzadik Records) was picked by Jon Pareles of The New York Times as one of the ten best alternative albums of 2002. Readers of JAZZIZ and DRUM magazine voted it as “Best Brazilian CD of the Year” and named him "Best Percussionist of 2002." Downbeat Magazine’s 51st annual critics’ poll selected Baptista as ‘Rising Star’ in percussion.

Famous quotes containing the words beat the, beat and/or donkey:

The Concord had rarely been a river, or rivus, but barely fluvius, or between fluvius and lacus. This Merrimack was neither rivus nor fluvius nor lacus, but rather amnis here, a gently swelling and stately rolling flood approaching the sea. We could even sympathize with its buoyant tied, going to seek its fortune in the ocean, and anticipating the time when “being received within the plain of its freer water,” it should “beat the shore for banks.”
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The first requirement of politics is not intellect or stamina but patience. Politics is a very long run game and the tortoise will usually beat the hare.
    John Major (b. 1943)

Heaven is the place where the donkey at last catches up with the carrot.
