Cynomya cadaverina was first described in 1830 by the French entomologist Jean-Baptiste Robineau-Desvoidy. Its name is derived from the Latin word cadaverina meaning ‘flies that feed on dead bodies.’ This species is a member of the order Diptera and the diverse family Calliphoridae.
