Cycling and Motorists

Cyclists in Canada are often unaware of the rules of the road or choose to ignore them, leading to complaints from motorist and pedestrians. In Montreal police issued over 3,000 tickets to cyclist in 2010, for violations such as running red lights, riding the wrong direction on one-way streets, or less obvious things such as wearing headphones while cycling (which is illegal in Quebec). In bike-car collisions in Montreal, each party is at fault around half of the time, indicating that motorists are often not aware of cyclist either.

Famous quotes containing the words cycling and/or motorists:

I shall not bring an automobile with me. These inventions infest France almost as much as Bloomer cycling costumes, but they make a horrid racket, and are particularly objectionable. So are the Bloomers. Nothing more abominable has ever been invented. Perhaps the automobile tricycles may succeed better, but I abjure all these works of the devil.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

To motorists bound to or from the Jersey shore, Perth Amboy consists of five traffic lights that sometimes tie up week-end traffic for miles. While cars creep along or come to a prolonged halt, drivers lean out to discuss with each other this red menace to freedom of the road.
