In topology, a CW complex is a type of topological space introduced by J. H. C. Whitehead to meet the needs of homotopy theory. This class of spaces is broader and has some better categorical properties than simplicial complexes, but still retains a combinatorial nature that allows for computation (often with a much smaller complex).

Famous quotes containing the word complex:
“Young children constantly invent new explanations to account for complex processes. And since their inventions change from week to week, furnishing the correct explanation is not quite so important as conveying a willingness to discuss the subject. Become an askable parent.”
—Ruth Formanek (20th century)
