Middle East
The ADF currently has main deployments in the Middle East and three smaller deployments. These operations are commanded from a Joint Task Force Headquarters located in the United Arab Emirates. A detachment of two AP-3C Orion aircraft is also located in the UAE, and it is expected that the ADF logistic unit in Kuwait and C-130 Hercules detachment in Qatar will also be moved to the UAE.
The deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan are supported by:
- HMAS Warramunga is the current frigate deployed to the Persian Gulf
- A detachment of three C-130 Hercules transport aircraft
- A detachment of two AP-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft
- A tri-service Force Level Logistic Asset, communications element and movement control group

Famous quotes containing the words middle and/or east:
“During a walk or in a book or in the middle of an embrace, suddenly I awake to a stark amazement at everything. The bare fact of existence paralyzes me... To be alive is so incredible that all I can do is to lie still and merely breathelike an infant on its back in a cot. It is impossible to be interested in anything in particular while overhead the sun shines or underneath my feet grows a single blade of grass.”
—W.N.P. Barbellion (18891919)
“Richard. Give me a calendar.
Who saw the sun today?
Ratcliffe. Not I, my lord.
Richard. Then he disdains to shine, for by the book
He should have braved the east an hour ago.
A black day will it be to somebody.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
