The Cumberland Valley High School serves the four townships of Hampden, Middlesex, Monroe and Silver Spring in Cumberland County. The area included in the school system extends from Carlisle to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. This area is suburban and is located fifteen miles west of Harrisburg.

The combined junior-senior high school opened in September 1954 to 800 students. The school has steadily grown since that time. This is evident by the size of only the freshman class of 2014, which amounts to about 705 students. All schools in the district, except for Monroe Elementary, have been re-built or remodeled due to significant student population growth.

Seven elementary schools and two middle schools funnel into the high school. The middle schools are: Good Hope Middle School and Eagle View Middle School.

The library (known as IMC, stands for "Independent Media Center") is a learning center providing books, magazines, daily newspapers, audiovisuals, and CD-ROMs. Students use computers to access library resources, the Internet and to do word processing and graphical analysis. They also have interlibrary loan privileges with other libraries in the state.

Cumberland Valley High School requires students to participate in "random" drug testing in order to attend school dances, play sports, drive to school, and many other activities.

Famous quotes containing the words valley, high and/or school:

The wide wonder of Broadway is disconsolate in the daytime; but gaudily glorious at night, with a milling crowd filling sidewalk and roadway, silent, going up, going down, between upstanding banks of brilliant lights, each building braided and embossed with glowing, many-coloured bulbs of man-rayed luminance. A glowing valley of the shadow of life. The strolling crowd went slowly by through the kinematically divine thoroughfare of New York.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
    Bible: New Testament Ephesians 6:12.

Loosed betwixt eye and lid, the swimming beams
Of memory, blind school of cuttlefish,
Rise to the air, plunge to the cold streams....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)
