Crystal Hot Sauce

Crystal Hot Sauce is a brand of Louisiana-style hot sauce produced by family-owned Baumer Foods since 1923. 3 million US gallons (11,000,000 L) of Crystal Hot Sauce are shipped per year to 75 countries. The sauce is reddish orange with a medium heat and a milder flavor than Tabasco sauce.

Crystal was famous for its lighted sign featuring a chef stirring a pot of hot sauce. The sign was a New Orleans landmark. Like much of the company's bottling plant on Tulane Avenue, the sign was substantially damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Following the storm, Baumer Foods moved its plant to new location in Reserve, Louisiana, located just up the river from New Orleans.

The green wrapper that sealed the bottle had the word Crystal written on it previously; after Hurricane Katrina the writing no longer appeared on the label.

Currently, the dark green over-wrap says both "Crystal" and "Louisiana" in white cursive letters.

One ... aspect of the case for World War II is that while it was still a shooting affair it taught us survivors a great deal about daily living which is valuable to us now that it is, ethically at least, a question of cold weapons and hot words.
