The Act Today
As of 2011 Northern Ireland remains a constituent part of the United Kingdom; the Henrician Act remains law there. However, the offence in the Act making it treason to endanger the Sovereign or her possession of the Crown now carries only a maximum sentence of life imprisonment following the formal abolition of capital punishment in the United Kingdom in 1998.

Famous quotes containing the words act and/or today:
“Remember how often you have postponed minding your interest, and let slip those opportunities the gods have given you. It is now high time to consider what sort of world you are part of, and from what kind of governor of it you are descended; that you have a set period assigned you to act in, and unless you improve it to brighten and compose your thoughts, it will quickly run off with you, and be lost beyond recovery.”
—Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121180)
“The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted.”
—Mother Teresa (b. 1910)
