Criticism Of The Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve System (also known as the Federal Reserve, and informally as the Fed) has faced various criticisms since its inception. The Federal Reserve Act was considered to be the solution to the money trust even though elements of the system were conceived by Nelson Aldrich and banking executives.

Famous quotes containing the words criticism, federal and/or reserve:

A bad short story or novel or poem leaves one comparatively calm because it does not exist, unless it gets a fake prestige through being mistaken for good work. It is essentially negative, it is something that has not come through. But over bad criticism one has a sense of real calamity.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)

[M]y conception of liberty does not permit an individual citizen or a group of citizens to commit acts of depredation against nature in such a way as to harm their neighbors and especially to harm the future generations of Americans. If many years ago we had had the necessary knowledge, and especially the necessary willingness on the part of the Federal Government, we would have saved a sum, a sum of money which has cost the taxpayers of America two billion dollars.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

Common experience is the gold reserve which confers an exchange value on the currency which words are; without this reserve of shared experiences, all our pronouncements are cheques drawn on insufficient funds.
    René Daumal (1908–1944)
