Cravens Peak Reserve - History

History

Cravens Peak contains fish fossils from the Devonian period. The traditional owners of Cravens Peak are the Pitta Pitta and Wongkamala people. The area was at the heart of the trade route for the narcotic drug Pituri. It later became a pastoral lease that was operated as a beef cattle station until acquisition by BHA.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

He wrote in prison, not a History of the World, like Raleigh, but an American book which I think will live longer than that. I do not know of such words, uttered under such circumstances, and so copiously withal, in Roman or English or any history.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No matter how vital experience might be while you lived it, no sooner was it ended and dead than it became as lifeless as the piles of dry dust in a school history book.
    Ellen Glasgow (1874–1945)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
