Cratloe - Sport

Sport

The most played sport in Cratloe is GAA, although lately sports such as Rugby and Soccer have been catching up. The year 2009 was the most successful year ever in the parish GAA wise, as the Clare Senior Hurling Championship and the Intermediate Football title was won. It was the first time that Cratloe had won the Senior Championship, beating Clonlara 3:05 to 1:09. Cratloe also won the Intermediate Football competition in 2004. Locals are keen Munster Rugby fans, partly due to Thomond Park, the teams home stadium, being located just 10 km outside the village.

Famous quotes containing the word sport:

For generations, a wide range of shooting in Northern Ireland has provided all sections of the population with a pastime which ... has occupied a great deal of leisure time. Unlike many other countries, the outstanding characteristic of the sport has been that it was not confined to any one class.
—Northern Irish Tourist Board. quoted in New Statesman (London, Aug. 29, 1969)
