Cradle of Coaches - Evolution

Evolution

Recently the nickname has been applied to the entire state. Native-born Ohio or Ohio-linked coaches dominate the top football programs in the Southeastern Conference, including national championship coaches Les Miles at Louisiana State University, The University of Cincinnati alum, Urban Meyer, formerly at the University of Florida and currently at The Ohio State University, and Kent State University alum Nick Saban at the University of Alabama. National championship coach Bob Stoops from the University of Oklahoma is a native, and Pete Carroll from the University of Southern California was an Ohio State assistant. Bo Pelini of the University of Nebraska and Gary Pinkel of the University of Missouri are also native-Ohioans, and in 2008 the state had produced natives totalling 15% of the college head football coach ranks while only having 4% of the population, while 15 of the last 20 teams to play for the college football national championship had head coaches with Ohio connections.

Famous quotes containing the word evolution:

What we think of as our sensitivity is only the higher evolution of terror in a poor dumb beast. We suffer for nothing. Our own death wish is our only real tragedy.
    Mario Puzo (b. 1920)

Analyze theory-building how we will, we all must start in the middle. Our conceptual firsts are middle-sized, middle-distanced objects, and our introduction to them and to everything comes midway in the cultural evolution of the race.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)

The more specific idea of evolution now reached is—a change from an indefinite, incoherent homogeneity to a definite, coherent heterogeneity, accompanying the dissipation of motion and integration of matter.
    Herbert Spencer (1820–1903)
