Like most major British cities, Coventry has a large ethnic minority population, making up 25.9% of the population as of 2009 estimates. The ethnic minority population is concentrated in the Foleshill and the St. Michael's wards. The composition of the ethnic minority population is not typical of the UK. Sikhs are the largest non-Christian religion, with significant numbers of other South Asians.

  • 74.1% identify as White British, compared to 82.4% in the West Midlands Region and 82.8% in England.
  • 25.9% identify as non-White British, compared to 17.6% in the West Midlands Region and 17.2% in England.

The non-White British population identifies as follows:

  • 5.1% as Other White (White Irish and White Other), compared to 3.2% in the West Midlands Region and 4.7% in England.
  • 2.4% identify as Mixed, compared to 1.9% in the West Midlands Region and 1.8% in England.
  • 12.3% identify as Asian/Asian British (including Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other South Asian groups), compared to 8.5% in the West Midlands Region and 6.1% in England;.
  • 3.1% identify as Black/Black British (including Black African, Black Caribbean and others), compared to 2.7% in the West Midlands Region and 2.9% in England.
  • 3% identify as Chinese/Other (Chinese and others), compared to 1.3% in the West Midlands Region and 1.6% in England.
