Courtesy Lights - Laws

Laws

A vehicle lawfully displaying courtesy lights is not an emergency response vehicle. In most states, vehicles displaying courtesy lights must still stop at stop signs, red lights, etc. and may not speed or disobey any traffic regulations. Usually, violation ticket fines are increased if the ticketed car was flashing courtesy lights. Laws vary greatly by state.

In most states, other vehicles are not required to yield to the vehicle displaying the courtesy lights, hence the name "courtesy".

A permit is not required in any state, besides New Jersey, to display a courtesy light.

If an officer pulls your vehicle over for using courtesy lights, you will need to provide identification that you are Emergency Personnel (Badge, ID Number, ID Card, Etc.)

Famous quotes containing the word laws:

Every individual, like a statue, develops in his life the laws of harmony, integrity, and freedom; or those of deformity, immorality, and bondage. Whether we wish to or not, we are all drawing our own pictures in the lives we are living ...
    Harriot K. Hunt (1805–1875)

Sadder than destitution, sadder than a beggar is the man who eats alone in public. Nothing more contradicts the laws of man or beast, for animals always do each other the honor of sharing or disputing each other’s food.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

... I want to live and be happy. I believe that we cannot be one or the other by pushing the absurd to all its consequences. I am like everyone. To feel liberated, I sometimes wish death on my loved ones, I covet the wives forbidden to me by the laws of family and friendship. To be logical, I should then kill or possess. But I judge that these vague ideas are unimportant. I everyone tried to put them to reality, we could neither live nor be happy.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
