A County Administrative Board (Swedish: Länsstyrelse) is a Government appointed board of a County in Sweden. It is led by a Governor or Landshövding appointed for a term of six years and the list of succession, in most cases, stretches back to 1634 when the counties were created. The main responsibilities of the County Administrative Board is to coordinate the development of the county in line with goals set in national politics. In each county there is also a County Council which is a policy-making assembly elected by the residents of the county.
Constitutionally each of the County Administrative Boards are Government agencies subordinated to the Cabinet Government. The Capital of a county is in Swedish called residensstad ("residence city") because it is the seat of residence of the Governor of the County Administrative Board. Each County also has a letter code, which is used for identification and forms part of the ISO 3166-2 standard.

Famous quotes containing the words county and/or boards:
“I could draw Bloom County with my nose and pay my cleaning lady to write it, and Id bet I wouldnt lose 10% of my papers over the next twenty years. Such is the nature of comic-strips. Once established, their half-life is usually more than nuclear waste.”
—Berkeley Breathed (b. 1957)
“These doorsteps seldom have a visitor.
The warping boards pull out their own old nails
With none to tread and put them in their place.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
