Counties of Northern Ireland - Lieutenancy Areas

Lieutenancy Areas

Like the rest of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland is divided into lieutenancy areas (see map on right). These are districts that have an appointed Lord Lieutenant—the representative of the British monarch. Northern Ireland has eight lieutenancy areas: Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, County of Londonderry, City of Londonderry, and City of Belfast.

Famous quotes containing the word areas:

The discovery of the North Pole is one of those realities which could not be avoided. It is the wages which human perseverance pays itself when it thinks that something is taking too long. The world needed a discoverer of the North Pole, and in all areas of social activity, merit was less important here than opportunity.
    Karl Kraus (1874–1936)
