History

The Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) was founded in 1986 by Jim Prior (then a Cabinet member and the new chairman of GEC), John Cassels and Pauline Perry (then Chief Inspector of Schools at the Department for Education). Jim Prior agreed to invite the heads of a range of businesses and universities to initial discussions to find a common cause that might be addressed through collaboration.
