In the state legislature Coto de Caza is located in the 33rd Senate District, represented by Republican Mimi Walters, and in the 71st Assembly District, represented by Republican Jeff Miller. Federally, Coto de Caza is located in California's 44th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +6 and is represented by Republican Ken Calvert.
Coto de Caza gave more than 65 percent support to Proposition 8 in 2008.
The area is patrolled by the California Highway Patrol, Orange County Sheriff's Department, and the Coto de Caza security force.
