Corkscrew (Michigan's Adventure) - History

History

The corkscrew was added by Roger Jourden to help turn his small deer park petting zoo into a full fledged amusement park. Many of his additions to Michigan's Adventure were to help compete with its neighbor park Cedar Point. This was the reason he decided on adding an Arrow corkscrew at the time. When the ride was built it was considered one of the most high tech and thrilling rides in existence and was considered by many including the manufacturers to be too big for what was at the time nothing more than a petting zoo. Roger Jourden has been quoted as saying that he would have liked to have had a loop in addition to the two corkscrews, but at the time it was too much for his budget.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Only the history of free peoples is worth our attention; the history of men under a despotism is merely a collection of anecdotes.
    —Sébastien-Roch Nicolas De Chamfort (1741–1794)

To summarize the contentions of this paper then. Firstly, the phrase ‘the meaning of a word’ is a spurious phrase. Secondly and consequently, a re-examination is needed of phrases like the two which I discuss, ‘being a part of the meaning of’ and ‘having the same meaning.’ On these matters, dogmatists require prodding: although history indeed suggests that it may sometimes be better to let sleeping dogmatists lie.
    —J.L. (John Langshaw)

Considered in its entirety, psychoanalysis won’t do. It’s an end product, moreover, like a dinosaur or a zeppelin; no better theory can ever be erected on its ruins, which will remain for ever one of the saddest and strangest of all landmarks in the history of twentieth-century thought.
    Peter B. Medawar (1915–1987)
