Cordwainer (ward) - Today

Today

The contemporary ward is home to many large businesses and new initiatives such as Bow Bells House, named after the bells of St Mary-le-Bow church—and not as sometimes thought the area of Bow. Cordwainer contains one other church, St Mary Aldermary, and the site of Antholin's Budge Row, demolished in 1875. Cordwainer ward is quite distinctive for its high number of licensed premises, but in addition has its own club dedicated to promoting the area positively.

Famous quotes containing the word today:

What we’re saying today is that you’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem.
    Eldridge Cleaver (b. 1935)

Most thoughtful Americans of today seem to have forgotten how strongly their own and immediate predecessors, Emerson, Hawthorne and Whitman, were still preoccupied with the essence behind things.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

Farewell? a long farewell to all my greatness.
This is the state of man; today he puts forth
The tender leaves of hopes, tomorrow blossoms,
And bears his blushing honors thick upon him:
The third day comes a frost, a killing frost,
And when he thinks, good easy man, full surely
His greatness is a-ripening, nips his root,
And then he falls as I do.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
