Apart from the Contai municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 61 gram panchayats under eight community development blocks: Kanthi–I, Kanthi–II, Kanthi–III, Khejuri–I, Khejuri–II, Ramnagar–I and Ramnagar–II and Bhagwanpur–II. There is no urban area under these eight blocks.
