Concrete Sox

Concrete Sox are a British crust punk band. They are largely seen as an early crossover thrash band who incorporated many thrash metal-like riffs in the style of their earlier recordings.

Formed out of boredom in 1984 following jam sessions with Gabba (Chaos UK/F.U.K.), Kalv (Heresy/Geriatric Unit) and various friends. The band was created/started by Vic Timoveric with his (then) friend Les Duly. Not set on a permanent name, they once gigged as 'Concrete Evidence', but the name 'Concrete Sox' (Vics parody of a Nottingham band 'Steam Roller Gloves') became the bands official name. First release was the LP Your Turn Next in 1985 on COR records followed by —a split LP with Heresy on Earache Records in 1986. The band went on to record a further album on Manic Ears records entitled Whoops, Sorry Vicar! (1987) and a fourth album on Big Kiss Records (Cat: KISS 1) entitled Sewerside (1989). They later released a further album entitled No World Order in 1992 on Lost & Found Records (GER).

Concrete Sox were one of the more established of the British hardcore / crust punk influenced thrash bands during the mid to late 1980s. They are also accredited with being one of the fore-runners/pioneers of the punk/metal music style/movement (along with other bands i.e. Sacrilege/English Dog/Onslaught/Deviated Instinct etc). Until recently, their early work was out of press but the 1st & 3rd albums have just been re-released (September 2012) on the bands own label, SoxCore Records in association with Boss Tuneage. Most of their recordings are also available via peer to peer networks & the band have made all their releases available for free through MediaFire.

Concrete Sox reformed in 2009 with a new line-up. After an unsuccessful tour in April 2010 (which was cancelled by the band after 3 shows), the line-up was disbanded. As of December 2012, original/founding member Vic Timoveric is working with a new line-up & the band are planning tour dates and new recordings.

Albums Your Turn Next + Whoops Sorry Vicar!, re-released on SpeedState Records in Japan (2003) have also been re-released (again) on the Boss Tuneage + SoxCore Records labels (Concrete Sox's own label) on 24 September 2012. The vinyl versions are on coloured vinyl & the CD releases have new/rare bonus tracks personally selected by founder Vic. New T-shirts will be released at the same time as the releases in Japan.

As of December 2012, Pug has returned on drums & the line-up has been completed by that addition of Craig Newman (ex-Headwound/Fight Back) on vocals & Dave 'Brownie' Brown (ex-Fractured/Belligerence) on Bass. The band are now managed by Dave (Davey Mac) McAllister...

Famous quotes containing the word concrete:

Beauty, like all other qualities presented to human experience, is relative; and the definition of it becomes unmeaning and useless in proportion to its abstractness. To define beauty not in the most abstract, but in the most concrete terms possible, not to find a universal formula for it, but the formula which expresses most adequately this or that special manifestation of it, is the aim of the true student of aesthetics.
    Walter Pater (1839–1894)
