CEO Tom Arnold
Tom Arnold has been CEO of Concern Worldwide since 2001. An economist by profession he has worked as chief economist (1988–1993) and as Assistant Secretary General (1993–2001) with the Irish Department of Agriculture and Food. He has a degree in agricultural economics from UCD and a master’s degree in business administration from the Catholic University of Leuven and a master’s degree in strategic management from Trinity College Dublin. Tom Arnold was appointed to the board of The Irish Times as a nominated director of The Irish Times Trust in July 2010. He became a Governor of the Trust in 2008. In October 2012, the Taoiseach (head of government or prime minister of Ireland) and Tanáiste (the second-most senior officer in the Government of Ireland) announced the Government appointment of Tom Arnold as Chairperson of the Convention on the Irish Constitution. Mr Arnold will continue in his current position as CEO of Concern Worldwide but has indicated that he will step down from that position in February 2013. In 2007, Mr Arnold’s salary and those of senior staff in Concern was criticised in a newspaper article. The charity responded saying that many of their staff “earn approximately €35,000, which is just about the average industrial wage".
