History and Objective

In 1995 Community Based Medical College Bangladesh, established, by Community Health Foundation Bangladesh is a college with a difference.

This college was first situated in mymensingh town at boundary road.and the community health foundation's office was at 161 kalibari road.then it was shifted to winnerpar 10 km. away from mymensingh town to its permanent campus.

Brief history:

First preparatory meeting of the community health foundation was held on 1 May 1994 in the conference room of the Civil Surgeon of Mymensingh.Out of 40 invitees only 12 had attended the meeting. Second preparatory meeting was held on 13 May 1994 at the same venue.At this meeting 14 persons attended of whom 10 were new. FORMATION OF COMMUNITY HEALTH FOUNDATION’ BANGLATION

On 5 August 1994 CHF’B was founded and 10-men Adhoc body was formed headed by Professor AIM Mafakhkharul Islam, former Principal of Mymensingh Medical College. Adhoc body was authorised to prepare a constitution and charter of objectives and governing rules for the organization.Community Health Foundation Bangladesh : Found in 1994 by 30 elite medical educationists and philanthropists. Community Based Medical College Bangladesh : Founded by Community Health Foundation Bangladesh in 1995.

The Dhaka University accorded affiliation to Community Based Medical College Bangladesh from session : 1994 - 95.

Government recognized Community Based Medical College Bangladesh in 1995 from session : 1994 - 95.

Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council recognized Community Based Medical College Bangladesh in 1996 from Session : 1994 - 95.

Governing Body of Community Based Medical College Bangladesh is founded as per Dhaka University regulation in : 2003. CHFB : Founded, administered and governed the College for 17 years since. 1995.

During this period so many students have graduated. Teachers were selected by Community Health Foundation Bangladesh through a selection committee and appointed them as per Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council qualifications

As per Dhaka University ordinances a Governing Body has been formed. This does not necessarily eclipse the presence or activities of Community Health Foundation Bangladesh for its projects of which the Community Based Medical College Bangladesh is the most prestigious one and which is yet to be completed and given a full shape.

Hence the importance of a very co-ordinated and warm relationship between the Governing Body and the Community Health Foundation Bangladesh (the sponsor organisation of Community Based Medical College Bangladesh) cannot be overemphasized.


Community Based Medical College Bangladesh is the prime project of the Foundation with several other supporting projects as noted below: 1. Satellite academic, training and field research clinic-cum-research centres. 2. Publication of scientific journal on health research and Medical education. 3. Satellite clinic for senior citizens. 4. Specialized clinic for STD victims. 5. Specialized clinic for Drug addict victims. 6. Specialized clinic for reproductive health, child health and Family welfare. 7. Organising and implementing field level curriculum on Family Medicine as desired and directed by the Director of Medical education. 8. Prevention of Rood Traffic Accidents. 9. Food and sanitation project for urban day labor population. 10. Establishment of Nursing school and paramedic training centre. 11. Nutrition project and landscaping.


Conceptual objectives:

  1. To develop a community orientated medical education system which shall support.
  2. a community orientated healthcare delivery system within the concept of National Health Policy.
  3. to contribute modestly within the parameter of health and social science to the overall national efforts in achieving meaningful, self-sustaining quality of life and environment.

Institutional objectives:

  1. To develop an educational system catering to the felt-needs and problems of the community with built-in flexible academic strategies based on continued feedback, monitoring, analytic and evaluation mechanism now aptly called Quality Assurance Mechanism.
  2. To bring about qualitative attitudinal change in the terminal behavioral trait of the passing out doctors grooming them as sympathetically responsive and empathetically active towards patients;professionally competent and ethically sound persons of the society.
  3. To achieve these objectives we must start from somewhere. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".

Community Based Medical College Bangladesh has already produced 479 medical graduates of whom 278 are male and 201 are female under the University of Dhaka.
