Famous quotes containing the words commonwealth, table and/or tennis:
“This little world, this little state, this little commonwealth of our own....”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
“How to attain sufficient clarity of thought to meet the terrifying issues now facing us, before it is too late, is ... important. Of one thing I feel reasonably sure: we cant stop to discuss whether the table has or hasnt legs when the house is burning down over our heads. Nor do the classics per se seem to furnish the kind of education which fits people to cope with a fast-changing civilization.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“I know some of my self-worth comes from tennis, and its hard to think of doing something else where you know youll never be the best. Tennis players are rare creatures: where else in the world can you know that youre the best? The definitiveness of it is the beauty of it, but its not all there is to life and Im ready to explore the alternatives.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
