Commonwealth Stadium (Edmonton) - Field

Field

The stadium was, until 2010, one of the few major facilities in Canada to have a natural grass playing surface. As such, Commonwealth Stadium often played host to international soccer matches and tournaments. Due the completion of the soccer-specific BMO Field in Toronto, Commonwealth Stadium is now rarely used as a soccer venue.

Commonwealth stadium was last resodded in April 2007 in preparation for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2010, Edmonton City Council approved the replacement of the turf with artificial turf, which was completed in May 2010. The City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Eskimos teamed up to do the 50/50 cost-shared project which rung in at $2.6 million.

Famous quotes containing the word field:

    the whole field is a
    white desire, empty, a single stem;
    a cluster, flower by flower,
    a pious wish to whiteness gone over—
    or nothing.
    William Carlos Williams (1883–1963)

    The poet will write for his peers alone. He will remember only that he saw truth and beauty from his position, and expect the time when a vision as broad shall overlook the same field as freely.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    In the quilts I had found good objects—hospitable, warm, with soft edges yet resistant, with boundaries yet suggesting a continuous safe expanse, a field that could be bundled, a bundle that could be unfurled, portable equipment, light, washable, long-lasting, colorful, versatile, functional and ornamental, private and universal, mine and thine.
    Radka Donnell-Vogt, U.S. quiltmaker. As quoted in Lives and Works, by Lynn F. Miller and Sally S. Swenson (1981)
