Common Anti-Air Modular Missile

The Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (or CAMM) is a surface-to-air missile and air-to-air missile developed by MBDA for the United Kingdom. The missile is based on the ASRAAM infra-red air-to-air missile, sharing some common features and components but with updated electronics and an active radar seeker. It is envisioned that the missile will be introduced into all three service branches of the British Armed Forces and is currently scheduled to enter service starting 2016. The Common Anti-Air Modular Missile is intended to replace the Seawolf missile on Type 23 frigates of the Royal Navy, the Rapier missile in British Army service and contribute to the eventual replacement of ASRAAM in service with the Royal Air Force.

Three variants of the missile have been designed for air, land and maritime platforms. These are designated; CAMM(A), CAMM(L) and CAMM(M) respectively. CAMM(M) will be known as Sea Ceptor in Royal Navy service.

Famous quotes containing the words common and/or missile:

It is a very common error of some unscrupulously infidel-minded, selfish, unprincipled, or downright knavish men, to suppose that believing men, or benevolent-hearted men, or good men, do not know enough to be unscrupulously selfish, do not know enough to be unscrupulous knaves.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

... the truth is the hardest missile one can be pelted with.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
