Comiket - Size

Size

By 1982, there were less than 10,000 attendees at Comiket, however, by 1989, there were over 100,000 attendees. Approximately 35,000 sellers, known as circles, participated in Comiket as of 2001. An estimated 510,000 attendees converge in the course of three days, but this number continues to increase. Because of the extreme number of people gathering in a single place, mobile phone companies set up temporary antennas that are usually employed when stationary antennas are out of service. Area hotels, trains, and bus services also make special arrangements to accommodate the large crowds. Comiket 76 from August 14–16, 2009 attracted an estimated 560,000 attendees. Since Comiket's inception, attendance has been predominantly female, however, at Comiket 78 in August 2010, males comprised 60% of attendees. Although, these numbers are only preliminary and are based on those people who responded to the study performed by the Contents Research Team of Tokyo University and Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Famous quotes containing the word size:

Delusions that shrink to the size of a woman’s glove,
    Then sicken inclusively outwards:
    . . . the incessant recital
Intoned by reality, larded with technical terms,
Each one double-yolked with meaning and meaning’s rebuttal:
For the skirl of that bulletin unpicks the world like a knot....
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

There are some persons we could not cut down to size without diminishing ourselves as well.
    Jean Rostand (1894–1977)

It is very considerably smaller than Australia and British Somaliland put together. As things stand at present there is nothing much the Texans can do about this, and ... they are inclined to shy away from the subject in ordinary conversation, muttering defensively about the size of oranges.
Alex Atkinson, British humor writer. repr. In Present Laughter, ed. Alan Coren (1982)
