Columbus City Center - Decline

Decline

During its last decade of operation, City Center’s positioning as the premier shopping destination in Columbus was eliminated, due primarily to the opening of the three shopping centers across the northern end of Columbus, and the closing of its key anchor tenants. At the mall's peak in 1992, it had 144 tenants occupying 1,250,000 square feet (116,000 m2) of retail space; just seventeen years later, in 2009, there were only eight small stores open for business, occupying 5,000 square feet (460 m2).

Famous quotes containing the word decline:

    The decline of a culture
Mourned by scholars who dream of the ghosts of Greek boys.
    Stephen Spender (1909–1995)

Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements, and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. We see our past achievements as the end result of a clean forward thrust, and our present difficulties as signs of decline and decay.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)

The chief misery of the decline of the faculties, and a main cause of the irritability that often goes with it, is evidently the isolation, the lack of customary appreciation and influence, which only the rarest tact and thoughtfulness on the part of others can alleviate.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)
