Colico - Infrastructures and Transport

Infrastructures and Transport

The station Colico is a perfect architectural example of the stations built specifically for the line Sondrio - Colico. The line was electrified through a revolutionary three phase method at 3000 volts made by the Hungarian firm Ganz in 1901. Between 1885 and 1886 Colico was connected with Sondrio and Chiavenna, but only in 1894 the link with Lecco was active. The line was then operated by the Adriatic Network, one of three major companies that remained in effect until 1905, year of birth of the Ferrovie dello Stato. The smaller station Piona shows the same style.

There are two piers in Colico comune territory: Colico and Piona.

Famous quotes containing the word transport:

One may disavow and disclaim vices that surprise us, and whereto our passions transport us; but those which by long habits are rooted in a strong and ... powerful will are not subject to contradiction. Repentance is but a denying of our will, and an opposition of our fantasies.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)
