Coatlicue Statue - Copies

Copies

The statue was dug up in 1803, so that Alexander von Humboldt could make drawings and a cast, after which it was reburied. It was again dug up in 1823, so that William Bullock could make another cast, which was displayed the next year in the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly, London, as part of Bullock's Ancient Mexico exhibition.

Famous quotes containing the word copies:

Not infrequently, we encounter copies of important human beings; and here, too, as in the case of paintings, most people prefer the copies to the originals.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

We can come up with a working definition of life, which is what we did for the Viking mission to Mars. We said we could think in terms of a large molecule made up of carbon compounds that can replicate, or make copies of itself, and metabolize food and energy. So that’s the thought: macrocolecule, metabolism, replication.
    Cyril Ponnamperuma (b. 1923)

Love is one and the same in the original; but there are a thousand different copies of it.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
