CNID Footballer of The Year (1970-2000)

The CNID Footballer of the Year or Portuguese Footballer of the Year (from 1970 to 2000) was an annual award given to a Portuguese player in foreign countries or any player in Primeira Liga (never any foreign player has won the award, but they were nominated just like Brazilian Mário Jardel in 1999) who is adjudged to have been the best of the season. The first award was delivered by the Portuguese newspaper Diário Popular to SL Benfica forward Eusébio, in 1970. Only Luis Figo has won the trophy on the most occasions, having won three six times in a row. The award has been presented on 31 occasions as of 2000 with 18 different winners.

Famous quotes containing the word year:

You have been here only a short time, Mr. Barnard. You cannot know what it is to live here month upon month, year after year, breathing this infernal air, absorbing the miasma of barbarity that permeates these walls, especially this chamber.
    Richard Matheson (b. 1926)
