Clonidine - Adverse Effects

Adverse Effects

This drug may cause lightheadedness, dry mouth, dizziness and constipation. Clonidine may also cause hypotension.

Clonidine also has peripheral alpha agonist activity which can lead to hypertension - especially when it is injected intravenously. This blood pressure increase is sometimes witnessed in cases of overdose in children. As the clonidine is eliminated by the body, the peripheral effects wear off and its basic hypotensive effect becomes evident. Both the hypertensive and hypotensive effects can be harmful.

Famous quotes containing the words adverse and/or effects:

[Religious establishment] is adverse to the diffusion of the light of Christianity ... [because] with an ignoble and unchristian timidity it would [be] circumscribed, with a wall of defence, against the encroachments of error.
    James Madison (1751–1836)

If I had any doubts at all about the justice of my dislike for Shakespeare, that doubt vanished completely. What a crude, immoral, vulgar, and senseless work Hamlet is. The whole thing is based on pagan vengeance; the only aim is to gather together as many effects as possible; there is no rhyme or reason about it.
    Leo Tolstoy (1828–1910)
