Famous quotes containing the words clarke and/or arthur:

    ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
    Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
    The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
    In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
    The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
    While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads;
    —Clement Clarke Moore (1779–1863)

    I trust the time is nigh when, with the universal assent of civilized people, all international differences shall be determined without resort to arms by the benignant processes of civilization.
    —Chester A. Arthur (1829–1886)
