Career

As a child, Clare voiced many radio commercials, sang competitively and began acting in local theater productions. After booking the first film she auditioned for, a small but pivotal role in Walk the Line, Clare continued to star in several independent films in Memphis before moving to Los Angeles. While studying theater at the University of Memphis she met director Craig Brewer who cast her in two of his indie films before casting her in the film Black Snake Moan and later as the lead in his MTV series $5 Cover.

To support herself through college, Grant modeled through Elite Model Management in Miami, Florida and subsequently modeled in Europe on several campaigns, including L-Oreal.

She has appeared in projects including the Showtime original series Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs, CSI: Miami and Warren the Ape. She has done voices on Robot Chicken, MAD & Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and played the lead role of Megan Graves in comic writer Brian Pulido's first independent feature film The Graves. Clare also stars in the MTV/Craig Brewer series $5 Cover, about the trials and tribulations of the current Memphis music scene.

Grant and Rileah Vanderbilt, under their production company Danger Maiden Productions, created, produced, and starred in the short film Saber which won two awards at the 2009 Star Wars Fan Film Awards: Best Action and Audience Choice awards. In 2010, Grant and Vanderbilt began working with Michele Boyd and Milynn Sarley under the group name Team Unicorn whose projects include the G33k & G4m3r Girls parody of Katy Perry's California Gurls video, a viral video which achieved one million views in its first week, and stirred controversy over its sexy portrayal of the women. The video pays tribute to women who love gaming, manga, and science fiction. Grant continues to create viral videos with Danger Maiden and Team Unicorn.

In October 2006, she appeared as "Babe of the Month" in a non-nude pictorial in Playboy magazine.

In 2012, she played the role of Beverly in the 2012 film Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean, directed by Matthew Mishory, and the role of Martha Collins in the film The Insomniac, directed by Monty Miranda. She guest starred in the second season of the Jane Espenson scripted romantic comedy web series, Husbands.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

The problem, thus, is not whether or not women are to combine marriage and motherhood with work or career but how they are to do so—concomitantly in a two-role continuous pattern or sequentially in a pattern involving job or career discontinuities.
    Jessie Bernard (20th century)

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was. Some major form of recognition seems to have to mark a woman’s career for her to be able to go out on a limb without having her credentials questioned.
    Ruth Behar (b. 1956)
