Cinequest Film Festival - History

History

Filmmakers Halfdan Hussey and Kathleen Powell founded Cinequest in 1990. The festival occupied a single theater (the Camera 3 Theatre in San Jose) and showed 60 films during this debut event. In subsequent years, the festival has grown to an thirteen-day event showing over 150 films and attracting over 90,000 attendees. Presently, the festival screens at the prestigious California Theatre, the San Jose Repertory Theatre and Camera 12 Cinemas. Cinequest Film Festival is widely known as a true discovery event--having helped discover over 2,500 films and film artists from over 100 countries throughout its history.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

It is remarkable how closely the history of the apple tree is connected with that of man.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The awareness that health is dependent upon habits that we control makes us the first generation in history that to a large extent determines its own destiny.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

The history of work has been, in part, the history of the worker’s body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers’ intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.
    Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
