Cinema of Argentina

The Cinema of Argentina has historically been one of the three most developed in Latin American cinema, along with those produced in Mexico and Brazil. Throughout the 20th century, film production in Argentina, supported by the State and by the work of a long list of directors and actors, became one of the major film industries in the Spanish-speaking world. Argentina has won fourteen Goya Awards for Best Spanish Language Foreign Film, being the most awarded country; and is also the only Latin American country that has won an Academy Award, with The Official Story (1985) and The Secret in Their Eyes (2009).

Famous quotes containing the word cinema:

I rather think the cinema will die. Look at the energy being exerted to revive it—yesterday it was color, today three dimensions. I don’t give it forty years more. Witness the decline of conversation. Only the Irish have remained incomparable conversationalists, maybe because technical progress has passed them by.
    Orson Welles (1915–1984)
