Christian Democracy of The 3rd Polish Republic

Chrześcijańska Demokracja III Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej (; abbreviated ChD III RP or ChDRP; English: Christian Democracy of the 3rd Polish Republic) is a now-defunct Polish political party that was created in 1998 by former Solidarity leader and Polish president Lech Wałęsa. He stood as the party's candidate in the 2000 presidential election but received only 1% of the vote. The ChDRP never gained substantial support.

Famous quotes containing the words christian, democracy, polish and/or republic:

The Republicans hardly need a party and the cumbersome cadre of low-level officials that form one; they have a bankroll as large as the Pentagon’s budget, dozens of fatted PACs, and the well-advertised support of the Christian deity.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

The principle of majority rule is the mildest form in which the force of numbers can be exercised. It is a pacific substitute for civil war in which the opposing armies are counted and the victory is awarded to the larger before any blood is shed. Except in the sacred tests of democracy and in the incantations of the orators, we hardly take the trouble to pretend that the rule of the majority is not at bottom a rule of force.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

It has always been my practice to cast a long paragraph in a single mould, to try it by my ear, to deposit it in my memory, but to suspend the action of the pen till I had given the last polish to my work.
    Edward Gibbon (1737–1794)

It was the most ungrateful and unjust act ever perpetrated by a republic upon a class of citizens who had worked and sacrificed and suffered as did the women of this nation in the struggle of the Civil War only to be rewarded at its close by such unspeakable degradation as to be reduced to the plane of subjects to enfranchised slaves.
    Anna Howard Shaw (1847–1919)
