The current teacher/student ratio is 1:9, which allows for in-depth, mentored independent projects, such as the required Sophomore Project and Senior Thesis. CCES has produced 156 National Merit Finalists since its first graduating class in 1972, and its average composite SAT score is consistently 200-300 points higher than the national average. In 2011 the average SAT score was 1796, compared with the national average of 1500.

The school offers 18 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 29 International Baccalaureate (IB) course for the IB Diploma program, which is offered as a curricular option for the student's junior and senior years. In 2010, CCES students had a pass rate (score of 3 or higher) of 82% on 192 AP exams. Since 2001, IB diplomas have been awarded to 95.3% of the 170 candidates pursuing the IB diploma. Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
