Choose and Book - Extended Choice Network

Extended Choice Network

In January 2007 private Hospitals started making their services directly bookable to GPs whose PCT had commissioned their services.

Since April 2007, the 'Extended Choice Network' has included all NHS Foundation Trusts and independent sector hospitals who are accredited by the Department of Health as meeting NHS quality and cost criteria. This meant that a GP could, via CaB, offer their patients the choice of four or more local providers, and the option of any Foundation Trust or accredited independent sector hospital in England.

The Government's intention is that when patients are able to choose between their local NHS Hospital and any accredited private hospital in England, standards will rise (known as 'contestability').

In March 2007 the first independent sector hospitals became available as directly bookable options from within Choose and Book.

Famous quotes containing the words extended, choice and/or network:

I have been accustomed to make excursions to the ponds within ten miles of Concord, but latterly I have extended my excursions to the seashore.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... the black girls didn’t get these pills because their black ministers were up on the pulpit saying that birth control pills were black genocide. What I’m saying is that black men have exploited black women.... They didn’t want them to have any choice about their reproductive health. And if you can’t control your reproduction, you can’t control your life.
    Joycelyn Elders (b. 1933)

How have I been able to live so long outside Nature without identifying myself with it? Everything lives, moves, everything corresponds; the magnetic rays, emanating either from myself or from others, cross the limitless chain of created things unimpeded; it is a transparent network that covers the world, and its slender threads communicate themselves by degrees to the planets and stars. Captive now upon earth, I commune with the chorus of the stars who share in my joys and sorrows.
    Gérard De Nerval (1808–1855)
