Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (song)

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is the Academy Award nominated song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the 1968 musical motion picture. In the film it is sung by Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes. "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is also featured prominently in the award winning stage musical of the same name which premiered in London at the Palladium in 2002 and on Broadway in 2005 at the newly refurbished Foxwoods Theatre (then the Hilton Theatre). Well-known cover versions are by The Shadows who released the song as instrumental in 1997 on the album The Shadows at Abbey Road: The Collectors Edition, by Percy Faith and by The Chipmunks (both in 1969) and by Franck Pourcel in 1976.

The song is parodied in the South Park episode "It Hits the Fan" sung by Mr. Garrison.

Aside from another Dick Van Dyke song being referenced in this film, Jim Carrey also famously parodies this song in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

Steampunk band Abney Park does a cover of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" on occasion at live shows, incorporating an industrial and classic twist to the song.

Don different from those regal Dons!
With hearts of gold and lungs of bronze,
